1. Yusra Mardini (Syrian Refugee Swimmer) 

Yusra Mardini is a Syrian swimmer currently living in Berlin, Germany. She is a member of the Refugee Olympic Athletes Team, competing under the Olympic flag at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.  Mardini is a Christian from Damascus. Civil unrest in Syria caused the Mardini sisters to flee. She with her sister helped swim the boat carrying 20 people across the sea to Lesbos. At the crossing of Turkey, the boat’s motor failed.
